For 25 years, Dawn has been the product of choice to wash the animal victims of oil spills. IBRRC and other wildlife groups have saved the lives of countless aquatic animals covered in oil because Dawn dishwashing liquid removes the oil while gentle to feathers and skin.
In October of 2006, Dawn and its manufacturer, Procter & Gamble, expanded their “Save a Duck” campaign to help spread the word about the many easy things that you can do to lessen the amount of oil improperly released into the wild. On the new “Dawn Saves Wildlife” website, consumers can educate themselves about oil's impact on the environment and make a pledge to make good decisions about using and disposing of oil.

Dawn also awarded an all expenses paid journey to visit with and document the work and actions of wildlife organizations across the USA. Dawn picked Christy Buckley of Pennsylvania and she will have the adventure of a lifetime, helping animals that have come into contact with oil and learning about pollution prevention. As she goes through the heartache and hope of rescuing wildlife, she’ll report back through “daily drops” to the Dawn® Difference Diaries, complete with photos and video. Be sure to visit this multi-media website to see the difference Christy—and Dawn®—is making.
Christy will spend October through
December 2006 learning from, working
with, and assisting the following
organizations:
• International Bird Rescue & Research
Center (IBRRC)
• The
Marine Mammal Centers
• Suncoast
Seabird Sanctuary
• Tri-State
Bird Rescue & Research
• National
Marine Life Center
• Cape
Cod Stranding Network
How Dawn Has Helped
Through History
More than 25 years ago, the IBRRC
was seeking a solution to clean
oil from bird’s feathers.
IBRRC discovered that Dawn dishwashing
liquid was powerful enough to effectively
remove oil from birds' feathers,
while remaining gentle on their
feathers, skin and eyes. Since
then, rescue groups worldwide have
chosen Dawn to clean aquatic animals.
"Dawn has made a difference
in helping us save countless birds
and animals over the years," said
Jay Holcomb, IBRRC’s Executive
Director. "But this effort
is even bigger. This says we all
can make a difference and every
little habit change helps."
